Privacy Policy

Overview

S&C Digital Management LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates AscendRN (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, name (if provided), and password (stored as a secure hash, not in plain text).

Onboarding and profile information: We collect information you provide during onboarding and use of the Service, including your nursing experience, current unit or specialty, learning preferences, study goals, and similar self-reported information.

Usage and progress data: We collect data about how you use the Service - which lessons you complete, your quiz scores and answers, milestones crushed, and time-related metadata about your activity.

Technical data: When you use the Service, we automatically collect technical information such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and similar information needed to operate the Service.

We do not knowingly collect: Real patient health information, social security numbers, financial account numbers, or sensitive personal information beyond what is described above. The Service is for educational use - do not enter actual patient information into any field.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Personalize your learning path based on your goals and self-reported gaps
  • Generate practice questions tailored to your specialty and competency level
  • Track your progress and display your dashboard
  • Communicate with you about the Service
  • Improve the Service - identifying which content is most effective, fixing bugs, developing new features
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, and abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for behavioral advertising.

Engagement Tracking

AscendRN tracks engagement with platform content while you are logged in. We record:

  • Which lessons you open and complete
  • Which quizzes you submit, including scores
  • Login activity (when you start a session)

This data is used to:

  • Provide your personal progress tracking
  • Power dashboards for institutional cohort administrators if you participate in a program
  • Improve platform content based on aggregate engagement patterns

We do not track:

  • Activity outside the AscendRN platform
  • Personal information beyond your account profile
  • Activity from non-authenticated visitors

You can request deletion of your engagement history at any time by emailing admin@ascendrn.net. Deletion of engagement history removes your data from institutional dashboards within 30 days of the request being processed.

How We Share Your Information

We share your information only in these limited circumstances:

Service providers: We use third-party service providers to operate the Service. These providers process information only on our instructions:

  • Supabase - hosts our database and authentication. Account information, profile data, and progress data are stored on Supabase infrastructure.
  • Anthropic (Claude API) - generates practice questions in response to your competency selections. We send anonymized prompts (specialty and topic) to generate content. We do not send your name, email, or personally identifying information to Anthropic.
  • Vercel - hosts the application code and may process technical request data.

Legal compliance: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights, the safety of users, or the public.

Business transfers: If S&C Digital Management LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will provide notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Data Retention

We retain your account information and data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period (typically 30-90 days), except where we are required to retain information for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business purposes (such as fraud prevention or financial records).

When you delete your account: Deleting your account from Settings permanently removes your personal data, including your profile, progress history, engagement events, completed assessments, and API request log. For legal and compliance purposes we retain a limited set of records: your authentication identity (your login email is replaced with an anonymized placeholder so the account can no longer be accessed) and your acceptance records for the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, and Medical Disclaimer. These acceptance records are kept to evidence your prior agreement in the event of a dispute.

Program participants: If you are enrolled in an institutional program, your account cannot be deleted through Settings, because your records form part of that institution's program. To request deletion, email admin@ascendrn.net so we can coordinate appropriate institutional handling.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we have about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Portability: Request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Objection or restriction: Object to or restrict certain processing of your information
  • Withdraw consent: Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time

To exercise these rights, contact us at the email address below. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and may verify your identity before fulfilling requests.

California residents (CCPA): California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information).

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), secure password storage (hashed and salted), and access controls on our database. However, no system is completely secure - we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If we become aware of a data breach affecting your information, we will notify affected users and applicable authorities as required by law.

Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, contact us using the information below.

International Users

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification. The “Effective” date at the top indicates when the current version took effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
